This file gives details on the variables related to measurements of litter mass loss and of micro-arthropod raw abundance included in the file "massloss_abundance.csv". Abundance is given in individuals per gram of dry litter.

date: date of litterbag collection.
loc: location 1 or 2. Location 1 is closest to the research station.
spec: moss species that dominate the bryosphere, either Hylocomium splendens ('H') or Pleurozium schreberi ('P').
plot: plot. The code indicates the location and the moss species.
removal: moss removal treatment, either moss present ('MP') or moss removed ('MR').
mesh: mesh size of the litterbag, either 1.0 × 0.2 mm ('M02') or 1.3 × 1.1 mm ('M10').
litter: litter type, either Betula pendula leaves ('B') or Pleurozium schreberi shoots ('P').
year: year when litterbag collection took place, either 2019 or 2020.
dry_g: dry litter mass at collection, in grams.
mloss: litter mass loss, in percent.
ORI: abundance of adult Oribatida mites.
ORI.J: abundance of juvenile Oribatida mites.
MESO: abundance of adult Mesostigmatida mites.
MESO.J: abundance of juvenile Mesostigmatida mites.
PROS.TY: abundance of adult Prostigmatida mites belonging to the family Tydeidae.
PROS.other: abundance of other adult Prostigmatida mites.
PROS.J: abundance of juvenile Prostigmatida mites.
UNK.J: abundance of unknown juvenile mites.
COL: abundance of Collembola.
