Sennius amazonicus (Pic, 1929), comb n.

Bruchus amazonicus Pic, 1929a: 26 (description, distribution).

Acanthoscelides amazonicus: Blackwelder, 1946: 758 (combination, catalog); Udayagiri & Wadhi, 1989: 36 (catalog). Sennius amazonicus: Santos et al., 1997: 883 –886 (host, biology).

Type material (1, MNHN): Lectotype male with labels: 1, “D r Hahnel. / Amazonas / (Staudinger.)” “ type ” “ amazonicus / n sp” “ Holotype ” “ amazonicus / Pic / det. 70 / J. M. Kingsolver” “ Lectotype / Bruchus amazonicus Pic, 1929 / design. J. H. Viana”.

Remark. In the original description, Pic does not indicate the number of specimens studied. One specimen was received from MNHN, here designated as a lectotype, with location data identical to what was given in the original description (Amazones) and Pic’s labels " type " and " amazonicus n sp". Santos et al. (1997) cited Acanthoscelides amazonicus as belonging Sennius but no paper was found with this transference. Here it is formally transferred to Sennius, as Sennius amazonicus (NEW COMBINATION), due mainly to the following characters: hind femur with one tooth at inner ventral margin, and internal sac of male genitalia with hinge sclerites.
