Remarks
As mentioned by Lemos de Castro (1973), P. birabeni is the most common species of the genus and it is characterized by the dorsal surface densely covered by long triangular scale-setae giving a pilose aspect to the animal (see Figure 1). Both features were confirmed in this work. For a complete re-description, see Schmidt (2003).
Distribution
This species is recorded from Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina states. The present work considerably enlarges the distribution of the species (Figure 14 (a).
