Data for 'QUANTIFYING INBREEDING AVOIDANCE THROUGH EXTRA-PAIR REPRODUCTION'

This file contains the data for the basic analysis of inbreeding avoidance through extra-pair reproduction.
Each row of the dataset pertains to one extra-pair offspring (n = 216).

These data come from the long-term song sparrow field study on Mandarte Island, BC, Canada.
The data provided here are sufficient to replicate the analyses presented in the above paper, and are therefore a restricted subset of the full Mandarte dataset.

Prof Peter Arcese (University of British Columbia), Prof Lukas Keller (University of Zurich) or Prof Jane Reid (University of Aberdeen).
We are always happy to develop collaborations with researchers who have good ideas for new analyses.
We'd also appreciate it if you could let us know if you are intending to make use of the dataset below in order to facilitate coordination of different ongoing research efforts
and allow us to keep track of all outputs from the long-term field study.


Key to variables:
"natalyr" is each offspring's natal year
"sex" is each offspring's sex, where 1 = female, 2 = male and 0 = unknown
"k.dam.socsire" is the coefficient of kinship between each offspring's mother and her socially paired male
"k.dam.gensire" is the coefficient of kinship between each offspring's mother and the extra-pair male that sired the offspring
"kdiff" is the difference between k.dam.gensire and k.dam.socsire
"BroodID" is the identity of each offspring's natal brood
"MotherID" is the identity of each offspring's mother
"GenSireID" is the identity of each offspring's sire (ie the extra-pair male)
"SocSireID" is the identity of the socially-paired mate of each offspring's mother
