TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (missing right hind-leg) (MZUF: Box 3): Milesia Ltr. Spylomyia [sic !] Mgn / manicata Rndn., ♀ / 92 / lectotype ♀, Spilomyia manicata (Rondani, 1865), design. J. van Steenis, 1998.
PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀ (covered with mold, missing right mid-leg) (MZUF: Box 3): Milesia Ltr. Spylomyia [sic !] Mgn / manicata Rndn., ♀ / 92 / Spilomyia diophthalma (Linnaeus, 1758) det. J. van Steenis, 1998.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Spilomyia manicata (Peck 1988: 213, Belcari et al. 1995a: 18, Steenis 2000: 157).
REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 132) described Milesia manicata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Steenis (2000: 157) designated a lectotype (♀) but did not mention the additional MZUF female numbered “92” as a paralectotype (this additional specimen is a paralectotype).
