Data description of the files Iron_Age.shp, Archaic.shp. Post_Archaic.shp, and Archaic_new.shp
These files contain data on the cultural period (or site-phase) during which each sites was occupied. Each row represents one site-phase at one settlement.
The sites stored in the present ESRI shape files refer only to those places identified as human habitation sites or possible habitations. Therefore, we have not included cemeteries, tombs, mines, etc.

Id (numeric): unique identifier for the site.
Toponyms (character): name of the archaeological site.
LocQual (character): scale defining the accuracy of the spatial coordinates.
SizeHA (numeric): estimated site size for each cultural period
SizeQual (character): scale defining the quality of the estimated site size
Source (character): publication from which the settlements data have been collected. See the file "Reference.txt" for a full list of references.
Source_id: unique identifier for the site in the original publication.

Location Quality Key
A exact coordinates of sites centroid
B- the site is within a 1km radius buffer of the coordinates collected
C -the site is within a 3km radius buffer of the coordinates collected
D- the site is within a 5km radius buffer of the coordinates collected

Size Quality Key
A very high attention to site extent in this phase by the publishers of this data, with a mix of some/all of intensive survey, some excavation and/or geomorphological study going into the estimate (polygon).
B published estimated size for this phase from a non-systematic survey or only very partial knowledge of sub-surface/geomorphology.
C published extent for all phases at the site and difficult to differentiate per phase.
D very rough guess for the sites likely extent in this phase by our project, from qualitative information about site type.
