A 65-year-old Colombian woman presented with 1 year and 9 months of stabbing episodic pain located in the hypochondrium and left flank, associated with hematuria, nausea and weight loss.
The patient had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hysterectomy.
On physical examination, the patient had no alterations in her vital signs, with a body mass index of 20kg/Mts2, and the only sign presented was pain on palpation of the left flank.
Medical management is initiated considering pyelonephritis without resolution of symptoms, so computerized axial tomography is taken, which reports mass dependent left kidney 9 x 10 cm nephrectomy, and is performed.
The surgical sample of the renal tumor was fixed after extraction with 10% formaldehyde and embedded in paraffin for preparation and microscopic analysis, the staining used was Hematoxylin and Eosin.
