SEM Withered Plant (BSE Series) — Kikoh Matsuura (Art–Science Archive)

SERIES OVERVIEW (EN)
====================

Scope
-----
This parent record aggregates all child datasets in the SEM Withered Plant (BSE) series by Kikoh Matsuura. The data were acquired by the author with a personally owned TECHNEX TinySEM M3-i using the BSE detector under high-vacuum conditions. Each child dataset contains raw, uncompressed BMP images (no embedded scale bars); JPG preview images with overlaid scale bars may also be provided for human-readable browsing. The number of images varies by set, and each dataset README documents the exact imaging and coating conditions (accelerating voltage, working distance, vacuum level, pixel size, field of view, frame time, etc.).

How this parent is used
-----------------------
- Serves as the hub for the series; cites and links all child DOIs (relation: HasPart).
- Provides a stable concept DOI for the entire series.
- The series_index.csv lists all child datasets and is updated via new Zenodo versions of this parent record.

File policy
-----------
- Child datasets: RAW BMP (no scale bars) is required.
- Child datasets: JPG preview images (with scale bars) are optional and may be provided.
- Parent record: include this overview file. The series_index.csv is updated via new Zenodo versions of this parent record.
- Parent record: include project documents (PDF): Withered Plant — Declaration; Withered Plant: Phase I — Record.

Project documents
-----------------
Declaration (Withered Plant — Declaration)
Defines the methodology and ethical stance of the project.
Issued once only; not revised.

Record (Withered Plant: Phase I — Record)
Documents the factual completion of Phase I (DOI 1–100).
Issued once; not revised.

Naming convention (child files)
-------------------------------
RAW BMP (no scale bar):
  KikohMatsuura_YYYYMMDD_withered_plant_BSE_XX.bmp (XX = 01–10 etc.)
Preview JPG (with scale bar):
  KikohMatsuura_YYYYMMDD_withered_plant_BSE_bar_XX.jpg

Related resources
-----------------
This parent record is complemented by two external resources:

- **Observation Archive**
  https://ensl.jp/kikohmatsuura/observation.html
→ Documents the act of observation as both scientific evidence and the foundation of art,
presenting the archival ethos behind this series.

- **Work Introduction**
  https://ensl.jp/kikohmatsuura/micro/withered.html
→ Presents the artistic concept and cultural context of *Withered Plant*.

Together, these resources provide the dual perspective of science and art,
ensuring the series endures as a unique trace at their intersection.
