-----------------------------------------------------------------------

{1} From an impression.
{2} We cannot be definite about the metres of these verses as the initial letters of their pādas are broken away.
{3} The missing twelve akṣaras here obviously included the names of some deities about whom we cannot
be definite. The reading in J.A.S.B., Vol.X, p.664, is a mere guess, as also remarked by Kielhorn.
Here, as in almost all the verses below, not only the second but also the first and third pādas have two
daṇḍas in the end. In the transcript I have retained them simply to lesson the number of foot notes, etc.
{4} The correct form is jyotirvidāṃ, which would not have suited the metre. The meaning of savadhiyāṃ is not
	clear.
{5} That is, from whom the paramāra (Paramāra) family took its origin. The word pramāratā seems to have
been formed on the analogy of bandhutā, janatā, etc.', as Keilhorn observed. Moreover the last two
akṣaras in the line are alike and their reading is uncertain. The intended reading is perhaps pramāratāmāpa.
{6} Note the use of hi here. The last letter of the pāda is not combined with the following for metrical
exigencies. Also note the separate sign for b(ब्) in this line.
{7} J.A.S.B. has vāsudevaḥ, but Kielhorn suspects that the original has vāsudhāyāṃ (wrongly for vasudhāyāṃ).
{8} J.A.S.B. has tasyātmajo bhūvalayapratiṣṭhaḥ śrīnāthaghoṣī vṛtavānvarāṇyaḥ (for vareṇyaḥ). But for the form of tha,
see tathā in 1.1; and the last letter is more like a ha than ṇya. The first foot of this verse which is
completely lost is restored by D. R. Bhandarkar as babhūva tasmāddharaṇīvarāhaḥ. See Ind. Ant., Vol. XL, p.239.
{9} Here the name might be read vaṃdhuka, but the Bhāruṇḍa inscription of the same king has dhaṃdhuka quite
clearly. The preceding word mahīpāla for the sake of metre; and the pa of bhūpaḥ, that
	follows is engraved as ya.
{10} The reading is clear but offends against the metre. Kielhorn observed that perhaps we should read
vīṇāniviṣṭā where, as in the case of the first ā of pūrṇṇāpāla in 1.7, the final a would have been wrongly
lengthened; but it is also possible that the composer may have put ṣṭaiḥ, not knowing that the word
aṃguli is feminine. The preceding vai can be removed by reading nirjarakinnarībhiḥ which gives the same
	 sense.
{11} Read nāma, which, however, would not suit the metre. This wrong form is clear in the original, and
as required by the metre. J. A. S. B. has bhāraṃ.
{12} J. A. S. B. has dhṛtadevi. The first of these letters has come out only as a dot. Devī is changed to devi for
	 metrical exigencies.
{13} The reading is certain, to be corrected to utpanna-. The J. A. S. B., instead of it, has tasmādamuṣyāṃ bhuvi. This
pāda may also be restored as utpādayāmāsa sa pūrṇṇapālaṃ.
{14} Read śatrūn. J. A. S. B. has rāṣṭraṃ. The gap at the beginning of the line may be filled in as ti sma bhūmiṃ
	 dṛḍhaprahāropi-.
{15} As also in J. A. S. B. Kielhorn read kakuca which, however, would give no meaning. For the preceding
	 pāda, J. A. S. B. has karapade maṇibhūṣitavīṇayā.
{16} The akṣaras na raṇe are engraved below the line.
{17} The mātrā of the second akṣara is lengthened for the sake of metre. The name compounded with the
following word is also defective. J. A. S. B. has pūrṇṇāḥ pālakulapradīpa iva yā.
{18} The sandhi is violated here for metrical exigencies. The medial ī of ṇī in lāhiṇī is shortened for the
same reason, as in 1.11 also, and again in 1.17. The gap in 1.8 may be filled in by reading -dheyāhaṃsī
	 yathā (tāmarasādvihīnā).
{19} For bhūbhujā for the sake of the metre.
{20} Between the daṇḍas an ornamental pattern is engraved, but it is indistinct.
{21} Kielhorn read yo yaḥ; and the J. A. S. B. has yo duḥsvaśauryyārjjitabhūyaśasyaḥ kāśīśvaraḥ.
{22} As clear in the original (for veśma), and as required by the metre. The last two akṣaras in the beginn-
ing of the line may have been khyāta or sarvva.
{23} The reading is certain, J. A. S> B. has vallabharājabhūpaścaropi.
{24} J. A. S. B. has vandyo narairyo, but the reading as given here is quite certain. The following vararāja suggests it to
be aname but the construction would not allow us to take it as such.
{25} The latter half of this verse involves a grammatical error, as yaśaḥ goes with yayau whereas vijitya with the
king. In the following verse the bahuvrīhi compound requires lakṣmīkaṃ.
{26} This is apparently intended for an Āryā verse, but it is quite incorrect. J. A. S. B. omits the whole of it.
	 We may recast it as
	 		protphullāmbujavadanāṃ kisalayamālānukāriṇīmenāṃ |
	 		śriyamiva kulajāṃ rājñī lāhiṇināmnīmudūḍhavāneṣaḥ ||
{27} Instead of these words and of the first half of the following verse, J. A> S. B. has vasiṣṭharājopi atrāsīdato yaṃ
vasiṣṭharājānvayopi (jātamātreṇa vāṛuṇināpi) atra nyagrodhasyāśramaḥ. The inscription has 4 or 5 letters after pi; they are all
	 effaced.
{28} The intended reading may be mādhavasya; but I am not sure about the meaning of the verse. Some legend
may have been referred to here.
{29} Kielhorn: read svanatau, or svamatau, i.e., respected by him.
{30} The anusvāra is redundant; it is certain and not a fault of the stone.
{31} Wrong for veśmabhiḥ, which would not have suited the metre.
{32} The sa has been engraved below the line.
{33} The reading is certain but it is incorrect, possibly, for gaṇikā, as suggested in J. A. S. B.
{34} For the sake of the metre, m cannot be combined with the following vowel. Note that this verse, like
some others, has the consonant m and not an anusvāra.
{35} Wrong for sopāna paṃktiriva which would not have suited the metre. Svarudgatā = arising in the heaven.
Probably the first word of this verse is intended for suhṛdgatā in the sense of 'hlepful as a friend', though
	 it is a wrong construction.
{36} Kielhorn restored it as niṣṭhitā, but I suspect that it may have been intended and the first letter dropped for
the sake of the metre. Kielhorn also read jananena, as the stroke of the mātrā for ī is not brought below.
But it is throughout common in this inscription, as we have remarked while dealing with its palaeographic-
al pecularities. Cf. nītā in the following line.
{37} The adjunct of this word is missing.
{38} The word bhānorgṛhaṃ has been repeated in this verse when a pronoun could have been used.
{39} This verse has a number of technical terms relating to architecture. Possibly śailāṣṭakaṃ is the correct from.
{40} Read -sandhirghaṭitopalā(ghaṭitopala = a dressed stone).
{41} Grammar requires stai ṛ-. Kielhorn has stairṛ. He also takes jagasthitā a compound word, whereas the first
of these words may be taken as an object of the second.
{42} Sandhi is not made between kṛtyau and artha for the sake of the metre. The reading of tya is doubtful.
Both these words are in neuter gender, but they are put here in the masculine.
{43} There is no doubt about the reading. Kielhorn read: [pa]ru(pura)to.
{44} Wrong for vyomni for the metre. Yāvad vyomni syadena would give the same sense and also suit
	 the metre.
{45} Wrong for āsātām. The reading etau stheṣṭhau bhavetāṃ would remove the error.
{46} After the punctuation marks, is engraved resembling conch shell.
{47} The name of the queen is written here with (the dental) n.
{48} Wrong for utkīrṇṇā
{49} An ornamental pattern appears here.
{50} The figures of a conch shell appears at the end. Delete the daṇḍas after the third foot.
