Capita bubula
The toponym "ad Capita bubula" is attested in Suetonius and
refers to a place located at the northeast corner of the
Palatine Hill in Rome near the Curiae Veteres. Here there
was a domus of one Caius Octavius, a Roman politician who
was the biological father of Octavian. It is possible that
Octavian was born in this domus and the sources suggest that
the location was later commemorated with the construction of
a shrine (sacrarium) and, eventually, a temple.

Ad Duas
Lauros
The toponym 'Ad Duas Lauros' refers to a large imperial
property at the third mile of the Via Labicana and today
comprised of the archaeological park of Centocelle. The site
is mentioned in the Liber Pontificalis as that of a large
imperial villa in which Helena, mother of Constantine I,
lived. Archaeological work conducted in the late 1990s
identified the remains of substantial Republican-period
villas in the same area, with evidence of both elite
dwellings and viticulture. The villas identified are the
Villa della Piscina and the Villa Ad Duas Lauros.

Anurādhapura
The ancient capital of Sri Lanka from the fourth century BCE
to the 11th century CE. It was recorded under the name
Anourogrammon by Ptolemy, who notes its primary political
status (Basileion). It has sometimes been argued that a
"Palaesimundum" mentioned by Pliny in retelling the story of
a Sri Lankan embassy to the emperor Claudius is also to be
identified with Anourogrammon.

Attapinis
Attapinis is included as an unlocated place on Map 62 of the
Barrington Atlas. The word "Attapinis" is attested in a
fragmentary inscription found in Armenia as part of a
fragmentary, signed funereal relief. ᾿Αλέξανδρος ᾿Αττάπινις
is identified as a Phrygian stonemason by Loewy. Buckler et
al. (1925) offer an interpretation that seems to be at odds
with the compilers of the Barrington Atlas and with the
contributors to the Treccani Encyclopedia, as well as with
E. Loewy and the RE compilers. Buckler et al. reject the
notion of "Attapinis" as a toponym and instead suggest that
it ought to be read as a Phrygian approximate of
᾿Αλέξανδρος.

Civita
Giuliana
The Civita Giuliana is located in the northern suburbium of
Pompeii, about 700 meters from the city walls. Thus far the
site has produced archaeological evidence of suburban villas
in Pompeii's hinterland. Early twentieth-century excavations
were carried out here, only to be published in 1994.
Clandestine looting at the site brought about a cooperative
effort to resume excavations in the interests of heritage

Lycian
League
Perhaps formed to protest the annexation of Lycia by Rhodes,
by 168–7 BCE the league appears to have gained
quasi-autonomy under the domination of Rome. Although the
league was a party to a treaty with Iulius Caesar in 46 BCE,
by 43 CE the region was annexed by Claudius into the
province of Lycia; the league survived and had authority
over some local customs and legal matters.

Obelisk
of Theodosius
The Obelisk of Theodosius is an ancient Egyptian obelisk
that was originally erected by Pharaoh Thutmose III
(1479–1425 BC) to the south of the seventh pylon of the
great temple of Karnak. The emperor Theodosius I had the
obelisk relocated to Constantinople after AD 390 and it was
subsequently re-erected on a newly commissioned sculpted
base on the spina of the city's hippodrome.

An ancient sanctuary located near the village of San
