Three gatherings, C. T. Yang 20394, C. T. Yang 21484 and C. T. Yang 20578, were designated as type in the original protologue (Cheng et al. 1963). Here we designate one of the sheets of C. T. Yang 20578 as the holotype. The validating description and diagnosis were previously published by Cheng & Chu in Cheng et al. (1963: 13). Li & Gilbert (2010) treated the name as a heterotypic synonym of Bischofia polycarpa (Léveillé 1912: 296) Airy Shaw (1972: 271) in the Flora of China.
