RESTART PROCEDURES
SPECPR is currently running on an LSI 11/23 with a UNIX operating system. This program has increased in size so that it no longer runs as a single job on the LSI 11/23. Its was necessary to break up the major areas of SPECPR into separate executable modules. The SPECPR program driver sets up the important parameters for running the program, or reads the restart file for these parameters and start up the excutable modules. These executable modules are separate processes that the main program starts up. In turn these modules can also start up other processes. These modules are as follows: HTML-IMAGE.nr 3c 0

Passing parameters and data between these processes are done via the restart file. The parent process calls the restart subroutine prior to starting up the child process to save the current restart parameters. When the child process starts up it calls the restart subroutine to read the parameters saved by the parent. Before the child terminates it calls the restart subroutine to save the parameters for the parent. Note: on the LSI 11/23 this takes a few seconds.
To start up a process from the program you make a call to this function:
function ixecut(program) where program is the process/program name
This function forks and executes the program whose name (null padded) is in the string "program". This function returns the ending status of the program. See function ixecute.
EXAMPLE:
c MAIN PROGRAM

st = ixecut(someprog)
