Is the
blood culture positive
?
If "Yes"
Continue focus identification / source control. Intensify diagnostics
and
repeat blood cultures (until negative)
If "No"
Continue therapy

Explanatory Notes:
| Basically, a follow-up is carried out by taking follow-up blood cultures to rule out persistent bacteremia and to determine the duration of treatment. Prolonged bacteremia can indicate an inadequate source control, therapy failure or secondary complications of bacteremia. | |
