Are all of the following conditions met?
Exclusion of endocarditis
No implanted foreign bodies
No evidence of deep-seated metastatic deposits
None of the subsequent blood cultures were positive (for the same pathogen)
Fever reduction within 48-72h after starting therapy
Infection focus known

If "Yes"

CAVE:
Especially when the entry point/the infection focus of the S. aureus ( S. lugdunensis ) could not be determined, in case of clinical deterioration after the end of therapy, a recurrence of bacteremia should always be considered and appropriate diagnostics (blood cultures, focus search as above) should be initiated.
Explanatory Notes:
If all the above points apply, it is probably an uncomplicated bacteremia. The duration of therapy is then 14 days i.v. (usually no oral therapy, if necessary consult with infectiology).
Should there be a complicated bacteremia present, an individual therapy duration must be determined (usually at least 4-6 weeks ).
