Is there a clinically clear focus for the infection?

CAVE:
Detection of Staphylococcus aureus in urine without existing foreign material in the urinary tract is usually a consequence and not the reason for bacteremia .
Explanatory Notes:
Possible septic metastatic foci or possible focus of infection are among others:
  • Vertebral osteomyelitis : Tenderness to percussion?
  • Joints : Swelling? Pain? Overheating?
  • Endocarditis : Heart murmur? Skin signs? Janeway lesions, Osler's nodes, splinter hemorrhages, conjunctival bleeding?
  • Wounds : (postoperative? chronic?) local signs of infection?
  • Pneumonia : Rales? Effusion? Empyema?
